This specimen was lot 3151 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 5 hryven, 2006, Chinese Zodiac Calendar – Year of the Dog, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, with COA of issue, Proof." This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 2006, including KM 387, KM 388 (shown here), KM 389, KM 390, KM 402, KM 405, KM 407, KM 409, KM 410, KM 411, KM 413, KM 415, KM 416, KM 417, KM 418, KM 420, KM 422, KM 424, KM 425 and KM 427. They were struck in various metals, including sterling silver, copper-nickel-zinc and bimetallic. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven.
