Steve Album sale 55, lot 3110

This specimen was lot 3110 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 2001, Flora and Fauna Series – Polish larch (Larix Polonica), struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, Proof." The Polish larch is known only from a few isolated stands in Poland. The variety found in the Ukraine is the Carpathian larch, which also occurs in Romania, Slovakia and Czechia. Both are subspecies of Larix decidua, common in the Alps. This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 2001, including KM 113, KM 114, KM 115, KM 130, KM 131, KM 141 (shown here), KM 142, KM 143 and KM 165, all except KM 143 struck to the same module. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven.

Recorded mintage: 3,000, from the Kyiv mint.

Specifications: 33.63 g, 0.925 fine silver, 38.61 mm diameter, reeded edge.
