Ukraine 2000 20 hryven Fr-15
This specimen was lot 981 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AV 20 hryvni, 2000, Monuments of Ancient Cultures of Ukraine Series - Pontic Olbia, bimetallic issue with 5.74 g gold (.916) center, and 7.8 g silver (.925) ring, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, Proof. An image of a coin from the Ancient Greek Black Sea colony Olbia-Sarmatia from the 4th century BC, now a village of Parutino in the Mykolayiv District, is at center; within the external ring there is an ornamental pattern and vase painting, which was characteristic for that period." The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the Karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovanetsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven. Other NCLT's of this series include KM 126/Fr-13, KM 127/Fr-14, KM 174/Fr-16 and KM 175/Fr-17. Olbia, on the north coast of the Black Sea east of modern day Odessa, was a major Greek emporium from the 7th century BC to the 4th century AD.
