Ukraine 2001 10 hryven KM-142
This specimen was lot 3111 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 2001, Architectural Monuments of Ukraine Series – The Khan's Palace in Bakhchysarai, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, Proof. The Khan's Palace is located in the town of Bakhchysarai, Crimea. It was built in the 16th century and became home to a succession of Crimean Giray Khans. The walled enclosure contains a mosque, a harem, a cemetery, living quarters and gardens. The palace interior has been decorated to appear lived in and reflects the traditional 16th-century Crimean Tatar style. It is one of the best known Muslim palaces found in Europe, alongside the Sultan palaces of Istanbul and the Alhambra in Spain." This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 2001, including KM 113, KM 114, KM 115, KM 130, KM 131, KM 141, KM 142 (shown here), KM 143 and KM 165, all except KM 143 struck to the same module. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven.
