Steve Album sale 55, lot 3117

This specimen was lot 3117 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $450. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 2002, Princes of Ukraine Series – Svyatoslav I Igorevich, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, with COA of issue, Proof." Sviatoslav I was prince of Kiev 945-972. Altho his mother Olga (who also appeared on a commemorative 10 hryven) was a Christian, he remained a pagan until his death, aged 28 years. This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 2002, including KM 145, KM 146, KM 160, KM 161, KM 162 (shown here), KM 164, KM 176, KM 177 and KM 229, all struck to the same module. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven.

Recorded mintage: 3,000, from the Kyiv mint.

Specifications: 33.63 g, 0.925 fine silver, 38.61 mm diameter, reeded edge.
