Ukraine 2003 10 hryven KM-197
This specimen was lot 3128 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 2003, Architectural Monuments of Ukraine Series – Genoese Fortress in Sudak, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, with COA of issue, Proof." This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 2003, including KM 189, KM 190, KM 191, KM 192, KM 193, KM 194, KM 195, KM 196, KM 197 (shown here) and KM 198, all struck to the same module. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven. Wikipedia comments, "The Genoese fortress (Ukrainian: Генуезька фортеця) or Sudak fortress is a fortress in Sudak, Crimea, built ...in [the] 13th–15th centuries."
