Ukraine 2003 10 hryven KM-198
This specimen was lot 3129 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 2003, Flora and Fauna Series – European Bison, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, with COA of issue, Proof." This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 2003, including KM 189, KM 190, KM 191, KM 192, KM 193, KM 194, KM 195, KM 196, KM 197 and KM 198 9shown here), all struck to the same module. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven. The European bison was hunted to extinction in the wild in the early twentieth century and survived only in captivity. Today, several thousand exist, scattered in zoos and reserves across Europe.
