Ukraine 2002 10 hryven KM-145
This specimen was lot 3113 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $218. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 2002, Heroes of Cossack Age Series – Ivan Sirko, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, with COA of issue, Proof." Wikipedia comments, "Ivan Dmytrovych Sirko (c. 1605–1680) was a Zaporozhian Cossack military leader, Koshovyi Otaman of the Zaporozhian Sich and putative co-author of the famous semi-legendary Cossack letter to the Ottoman sultan that inspired the major painting Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks by the 19th-century artist Ilya Repin." This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 2002, including KM 145 (shown here), KM 146, KM 160, KM 161, KM 162, KM 164, KM 176, KM 177 and KM 229, all struck to the same module. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven.
