Sincona sale 102, lot 5594

This specimen was lot 5594 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,750 CHF (about US$4,145 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Zug. Stadt und Kanton. Dicken 1623, Zug. Von grosser Seltenheit. Randausbruch. Sehr schön. Der Dicken 1623 ist der erste Jahrgang mit der Jahreszahl im Abschnitt der Rückseite und gleichzeitig auch der Seltenste. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zug, dicken of 1623, Zug mint. Of high rarity, edge chipped, Very Fine. The dicken of 1623 is the first issue with the date on the reverse and also the rarest.)"

A dicken was 24 kreuzer or about 4/15 of a thaler. This type, struck 1623-24, is rare. The prior type, KM 20, is common. The figure on the obverse is St Oswald, a British king who converted the Northumbrians.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.26 g, silver, 30 mm diameter, this specimen 8.26 g.

Catalog reference: KM 34, Wielandt (Zug) 68. D.T. 1243a, HMZ 2-1092p.
