Sincona sale 97, lot 3063

This specimen was lot 3063 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Dicken o. J. (um 1610), Bern. Gutes sehr schön. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (Switzerland, city and canton of Bern, Good Very Fine, Extraordinary condition.)"

The SCWC lists four dicken for the 1620's: KM 12 (bear in shield on obverse, eagle on reverse), KM 20 (klippe version of KM 12), KM 21 (bear on obverse, cross on reverse), KM 22 (klippe version of KM 21). The SCWC attributes the undated issue to 1623. All are rare. A dicken was 24 kreuzer or six batzen. The reverse legend, "+BERCH D ZERING.CONDITOR", likely refers to Berthold V, last duke of Zähringen (r. 1186-1218).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 7 g, silver, 30 mm diameter, this specimen 9.54 g.

Catalog reference: KM 21, Lohner 301-334, HMZ 2-172d.
