Sincona sale 76, lot 1659

This specimen was lot 1659 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 4,000 CHF (about US$4,855 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton. Dicken 1620, Bern. Nach links schreitenden Bär, oben der doppelköpfige Reichsadler mit kleinen Nimben, unten die Jahreszahl. Rv. Kreuz mit Lilienverzierung in den Winkeln. Sehr selten. Gutes sehr schön. NGC VF35. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, dicken of 1620, Bern mint. Obverse: a bear walks left, double head eagle above with small halos, date below; reverse: cross cantonned with four florescences. Very rare, Good very fine.)"

This specimen was offered again as lot 3123 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 5,500 CHF (about US$7,268 including buyer's fees).The SCWC lists four dicken for 1620: KM 12 (bear in shield on obverse, eagle on reverse), KM 20 (klippe version of KM 12), KM 21 (bear on obverse, cross on reverse), KM 22 (klippe version of KM 21). We will catalog this example as KM 21 altho the photo in the SCWC shows the date in the obverse legend, not below the bear. All are rare. A dicken was 24 kreuzer or six batzen.
