Bern 1624 1/2 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 4118 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$2,079 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Vierer 1624, Bern. Von grösster Seltenheit. Sehr schön. Avers: Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. Exemplar der Auktion Lugdunum 22, Solothurn, Dezember 2022, Los 187. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, vierer of 1624, Bern mint. Of the highest rarity, Very Fine, Minor flan flaw.)"
This type was struck 1620-23 and undated. The reverse legend, "+BERCHT·D·ZERIN COND", likely refers to Berthold V, last duke of Zähringen (r. 1186-1218).
