SB825-43396r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43396 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Franc, 1807-U. Turin Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS EF-45. A VERY RARE type, this specimen is exceptionally wondrous on account of its elevated, problem-free state of preservation. Pleasingly toned, with some subtle hints of brilliance remaining. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Stack's in 1953). Ex: Knowles Collection (Stack's - 5/1953) Lot # 550 (part of)." This is a scarce date of a type struck 1806-07 at eleven mints. Le Franc reports five known of this date, which total probably does not include this example. The Turin mint in Italy struck coinage of French design during years 12 to 1813.

Recorded mintage: 10,552.

Specification: 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 23 mm diameter, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier (1763-1819).

Catalog reference: KM-672.10; Gad-444; F.202/18.
