Künker sale 400, lot 380

This specimen was lot 380 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,114 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Dukat 1776, CA, Wien. GOLD. Attraktives Exemplar, vorzüglich/vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, ducat of 1776, Vienna mint. Attractive example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

Austrian ducats of 1776 feature either emperor Joseph II (KM 1859) or his mother, Maria Theresia (KM 1842, KM 1858). This type was struck at Vienna 1765-80 and shows the veiled bust of the empress, adopted after the death of her husband Francis I.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.47 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1842, Eypeltauer 184 b; Fr-415.
