Zurich 1692 1/2 ducat Fr-467
This specimen was lot 31570 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $376. The catalog description[1] noted, "Zurich. City gold 1/2 Ducat 1692 MS61 NGC. Entirely original with no significant marks and slight planchet waviness that unquestionably contributed to the grade. Close inspection reveals a partial 8 beneath the 9 in the date and as a variety missing from every catalog we've encountered, an attribute that should aid the appeal of this coin. Ex. LHS Numismatik (10/2005 - Lot 83) From the Redwood Collection, Part II." Half ducats were struck occasionally in Zurich in the seventeenth century. This type is noted for 1671, 1677, 1692 and 1702. Tho not common, they are quite a bit more affordable than ducats or double ducats.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.75 g, 0.986 fine gold, .055 troy oz AGW.
