Zeeland 1773 silver ducat Dav-1848
This specimen was lot 2550 in Jean Elsen sale 160 (Brussels, November 2024), where it sold for €110 (about US$139 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, ZEELAND, Provincie, AR zilveren dukaat, 1773. Vz/ Staande ridder r. met zwaard en provinciewapen. Kz/ Gekroond Generaliteitswapen. Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, silver ducat of 1773. Obverse: standing knight with sword and provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality. Very fine.)"
Zeeland struck silver ducats throughout the eighteenth century until the collapse of the United Provinces in 1794. This subtype was struck 1757-94 and many dates are common. Zeeland also struck half, quarter and eighth silver ducats, the only province to do so.
Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
