Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 1937

This specimen was lot 1937 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €190 (about US$257 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, ZEELAND, Provincie, AR arendsdaalder van 60 groot, 1618, Middelburg. Vz/ Dubbelkoppige adelaar met provinciewapen op de borst. Kz/ Wapenschild onder jaartal. . Kras op vz en deuk aan de rand. Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, silver daalder of sixty groats of 1618, Middleburg mint. Obverse: double-headed eagle with the provincial arms on its breast; reverse: arms below date. Obverse scratch and rim bumps, Very Fine.)"

This type, too light to pass for a thaler, probably traded for a sixty kreuzer or gulden. It was struck 1602 and 1618-19 and later passed for thirty stuivers.
