Zeeland 1617 daalder Dav-4872
This specimen was lot 39427 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Zeeland. Lion Daalder, 1617. PCGS Genuine--Bent, Unc Details." The leeuwendaalder and its half are famous in the numismatic world as being some of the worst struck coins in history. Most of the provinces and several of the cities struck them from the 1570's until the end of the seventeenth century. The SCWC lists this type for 1606-1658. This type overlaps the prinsen rijksdaalder of 1606-58, the silver ducat of 1659-68 and the ducaton of 1660-73, all struck to different standards. Most dates are common.
