Zeeland 1680 30 stuivers
This specimen was lot 1333 in Jean Elsen sale 123 (Brussels, December 2014), where it sold for €120 (about US$174 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
" NEDERLAND, ZEELAND, Provincie, AR daalder van 30 stuiver, 1680, Droit: Staande ridder met zwaard en voor zich gekroond provinciewapen. Revers: Negenveldig wapenschild onder 30 STête. Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, silver dollar of thirty stuivers of 1680. Obverse: standing knight supports the crowned provincial arms; reverse: nine-quartered shield, value above. Very fine.)"
This type was struck for Zeeland, a province of the Netherlands, 1676-82. A revised reverse was used 1682-87. It is priced fairly low in the SCWC but is seldom seen.
Recorded mintage: 725,540 for 1679-81.
