Jean Elsen sale 144, lot 1825

This specimen was lot 1825 in Jean Elsen sale 144 (Brussels, March 2020), where it sold for €120 (about US$158 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, ZEELAND, Provincie, AR Nederlandse rijksdaalder, 1621. Vz/ Geharnast en gelauwerd borstbeeld n. r. met zwaard en provinciewapen. Kz/ Gekroond Generaliteitswapen. bijna Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, Dutch rixdollar of 1621. Obverse: armored and laureate bust with sword and provincial arms; reverse: arms of the Generality. about Very Fine.)"

This type is slightly scarcer than the Westfriesland prinsen rijksdaalder (Dav-4842) and does not come with the variety of mintmarks reported therefrom. It was issued 1606-51.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: 29.03 g, 0.885 fine silver, this specimen 28,09 g.
