Künker sale 263, lot 1430

This specimen was lot 1430 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,680 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Wurzburg, BISTUM Franz von Hatzfeld, 1631-1642. Reichstaler 1638, Nürnberg. RR Hübsche Patina, kl. Zainende, sehr schön. (bishopric of Würzburg, Francis of Hatzfeld, 1631-42, thaler of 1638, Nuremberg mint. Rare, toned, light scratch, very fine.)"

The Bishop of Würzburg struck thalers on occasion but most are rare. This one was issued 1637-41. Würzburg thalers from the eighteenth century are much more available.
