Wurzburg 1613-CM thaler Dav-5967
This specimen was lot 5479 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €8,500 (about US$10,984 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRZBURG, BISTUM, Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn, 1573-1617. Reichstaler 1613, mit Titel Matthias. Von großer Seltenheit. Attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (bishopric of Wurzburg, Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn, 1573-1617, thaler of 1613, struck in the name of Matthias. Extremely rare, attractive example with handsome patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
St. Kilian, who was martyred by the East Franks in 689 A.D., is featured on the obverse. This type was struck 1613 only.
