Wurzburg 1639 thaler Dav-5975
This specimen was lot 2549 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,500 CHF (about US$3,768 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Würzburg, Bistum, Franz von Hatzfeld, 1631-1642. Taler 1639, Nürnberg. Selten. Vorzüglich. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (Germany, bishopric of Würzburg, Francis of Hatzfeld, 1631-42, thaler of 1639, Nuremberg mint. Rare, Extremely Fine, Extraordinary condition.)"
The Bishop of Würzburg struck thalers on occasion but most are rare. This one was issued 1636-39. Würzburg thalers from the eighteenth century are much more available.
