This specimen was lot 3771 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Wurzburg. Taler, 1652. Johann Philipp Franz von Schonborn (1642-73). NGC AU Details--Removed From Jewelry. Nice strike. Mild toning. Some hairlines and evidence of past cleaning, small evidence at compass points of mounting in a bezel. From the Rockaway Collection." The Bishop of Würzburg struck thalers on occasion but most are rare. This one was issued 1652 and 1659. Würzburg thalers from the eighteenth century are much more available.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce date.
