This specimen was lot 1029 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 3,500 CHF (about US$4,333 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Würzburg, Bistum Johann Gottfried von Guttenberg, 1684-1698. Taler 1693. Fast FDC. (Germany, bishopric of Würzburg, John Gottfried of Guttenberg, 1684-98, thaler of 1693, choice uncirculated.)"

The Bishop of Würzburg struck thalers on occasion but most are rare. This one and the accompanying issue of 1693 (Dav-5994) are only scarce. Wurzburg thalers from the eighteenth century are much more available.

Catalog reference: KM-205; Dav-5993; Helmschrott 450.
