This specimen was lot 22647 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Wurzburg. Schilling, 1688. Johann Gottfried II. NGC MS-66. This exceptionally preserved Gem has escaped appreciable friction over the past 330 years and remains brilliant and lustrous. Traces of die polishing around the devices have created considerable prooflike reflectivity in the fields, contrasting the more richly frosted design elements. A truly remarkable jewel from the 17th century that is certainly one of the finest known." This schilling, tariffed at eight pfennig, was struck 1685-88 and is not listed as expensive.
