Wurttemberg 1744-SS ducat Fr-3600a
This specimen was lot 2172 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €20,000 (about US$27,834 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, Karl Eugen, 1744-1793. Dukat 1744, Stuttgart. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit umgelegter Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies, unten die Stempelschneidersignatur VS (Veit Schrempf)//Vierfeldiges Wappen mit Mittelschild in verzierter Kartusche, darüber Fürstenhut, unten der Stern des Jagdordens und das Münzmeisterzeichen S S . (Simon Schnell, Münzmeister in Stuttgart 1744-1745), zu den Seiten die geteilte Jahreszahl 17 - 44. GOLD. Äußerst selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Erworben 1936 bei der Firma Helbing, München. (Germany, duchy of Württemberg, Charles Eugene, 1744-93, ducat of 1744, Stuttgart mint. Obverse: armored bust right, wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece; reverse: quartered arms in a cartouche, electoral cap above and the star of the order of the hunter and mintmaster's initials. Extremely rare in this quality, choice example, extremely fine to uncirculated. Bought from Helbing in 1936.)"
