Wurttemberg 1748-R ducat Fr-3601
This specimen was lot 20642 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Wurttemberg. Ducat, 1748-R. Karl Eugen (1744-93). NGC EF Details--Surface Hairlines. Tall armored bust right; Reverse: Quartered crowned Arms in narrow shields, 'PROVIDE ET CONSTANTER'. A RARE type, highly sought for its distinctive portrait that imparts unique character to the eye appeal. While present, the NGC noted "surface hairlines" are rather trivial in terms of their overall influence on the appearance." Another rare issue, struck 1744, 1747-50 and 1762. This state issued little coinage prior to Napoleon.
