This specimen was lot 6627 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,496 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, Eberhard Ludwig, 1693-1733. Dukat o. J. (nach 1706), Stuttgart. GOLD. RR Vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Wurttemberg, Eberhard Louis, 1693-1733, undated ducat, Stuttgart mint. Rare, extremely fine.)

Eberhard Ludwig wurde im Jahr 1693 im Alter von 16 Jahren von Kaiser Leopold für volljährig erklärt und übernahm die Regierung von seinem Onkel und Vormund Friedrich Karl. Der Herzog kommandierte im Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg zeitweilig die Reichstruppen und zeichnete sich besonders in der Schlacht von Höchstädt 1704 aus. Seine militärischen Erfolge wurden überschattet von der nebenehelichen Liebesbeziehung zur Landhofmeisterin Wilhelmine von Graevenitz, die er im Juli 1707 - obwohl mit einer badischen Markgräfin getraut - sogar heiratete. Um sich der ständigen Kontrolle durch die in Stuttgart tagenden Stände zu entziehen, verlegte er seine Residenz 1724 nach Ludwigsburg, wo er seit 1704 ein prächtiges Schloß gebaut hatte. (Eberhard Ludwig was declared of age by Emperor Leopold in 1693 and took over the government from his uncle and guardian Friedrich Karl. The Duke temporarily commanded the imperial troops in the War of the Spanish Succession and distinguished himself particularly in the Battle of Höchstädt in 1704. His military successes were overshadowed by the liaison with Wilhelmine von Graevenitz, whom he even married in July 1707 - although already married to a Margravine from Baden. In order to avoid interference from the estates meeting in Stuttgart, he moved his residence to Ludwigsburg in 1724, where he built a magnificent castle in 1704.)"

This type is also known dated 1732 or 1733 and was struck while the duke was experimenting with the carolin d'or.
