Künker sale 335, lot 4474

This specimen was lot 4474 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €4,400 (about US$5,758 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH. Karl Friedrich von Württemberg-Oels als Administrator und Vormund von Karl Eugen, 1738-1744. Reichstaler 1740, Stuttgart. Ausbeute der Grube St. Christophstal. R Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Die Grube Christophstal liegt im Stadtgebiet von Freudenstadt, dessen Türme auf der Rückseite dieses Talers zu sehen sind. (Germany, duchy of Wurttemberg, Frederick of Württemberg-Oels as administrator and regent for Charles Eugene, 1738-44, thaler of 1740, Stuttgart mint, for the St. Christopher mine. Scarce, very fine to extremely fine. The Christophstal mine is located in the township of Freudenstadt, the towers of which can be seen on the reverse of this thaler.)"

Another rare type issued by the regent for the duke. This one has the highest catalog value of any Wurttemberg thaler of the eighteenth century.
