Künker sale 335, lot 4443

This specimen was lot 4443 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €24,000 (about US$31,407 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH. Johann Friedrich, 1608-1628. Reichstaler 1624, Christophstal. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit umgelegtem Mantel//Gekröntes, vierfeldiges Wappen. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich +. Exemplar der Auktion Kricheldorf 49, Freiburg 2017, Nr. 1779. (Germany, duchy of Wurttemberg, John Frederick, 1608-28, thaler of 1624. Obverse: armored and mantled bust right; reverse: crowned and quartered arms. Very rare in this condition, handsome patina, extremely fine or better.)"

This thaler was struck 1623-24. Other thalers for 1624 include Dav-7850, -7850A, Dav-7850B, -7850C; all are rare.
