Wurttemberg 1625-CT thaler Dav-7856
This specimen was lot 4444 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,112 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH. Johann Friedrich, 1608-1628. Reichstaler 1625 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1624 geändert), Christophstal. Üblicher Stempelfehler am Rand bei 12 Uhr, sehr schön. Der Stempelfehler auf der Vorderseite wird häufig irrtümlich als Henkelspur bezeichnet. (Germany, duchy of Wurttemberg, John Frederick, 1608-28, thaler of 1625/4. The privy mark on the obverse has been crudely corrected; this is often mistaken for a mount mark. Davenport shows this type with the wrong reverse.)"
This thaler was struck 1624-25. Other thalers for 1625 include Dav-7859, -7862, -7864; all are rare.
