This specimen was lot 33848 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $3,840. The lot description[1] noted, "Netherlands: West Friesland. Provincial Ducaton (Silver Rider) 1785 MS63 NGC. No mint mark. A rather striking and intricate 'Silver Rider' that has not been offered by Heritage Auctions since 2019. Here, we find it in a remarkable state of preservation that has rightfully earned the coveted Choice Mint State designation. The legends and motifs, especially the namesake "Silver Rider" on the obverse, still posses the vast majority of their stunning detailing. To not mention the beauty of the silver it sits upon would be a disservice as it creates a lovely cartwheel luster to catch the light upon the crevasses. It is further bolstered by its sheer rarity as it sits in the top grade category possible between both PCGS and NGC, with only 11 certified in totality." The ducaton was the largest silver coin struck in the United Provinces and most of the provinces issued it at one time or another. This subtype was struck 1774-93 and is common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 32.78 g, 0.941 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 127.3, Dav-1834, Delm-1022.
