Westfriesland 1660 ducaton Dav-4939
This specimen was lot 2207 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €225 (about US$321 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, WEST-FRIESLAND, AR dukaton (zilveren rijder), 1660. Vz/ Ridder te paard r. boven provinciewapen. Kz/ Gekroond Generaliteitswapen gehouden door twee leeuwen. bijna Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, silver ducaton of 1660. Obverse: mounted knight charges right, provincial arms below; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality supported by two lions. about Very Fine.)"
This type, the largest silver coin of the United Provinces, was struck in Westfriesland 1659-74.
