Westfriesland 1593 rijksdaalder Dav-8865
This specimen was lot 1179 in Jean Elsen sale 162 (Brussels, June 2025), where it sold for €300 (about US$416 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, WEST-FRIESLAND, AR gehelmde rijksdaalder (prinsendaalder), 1593. Vz/ Geharnast bb. van Willem de Zwijger n. r. met geschouderd zwaard. Kz/ Provinciewapen onder toernooihelm waarboven Westfries wapentje. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, silver prince's daalder of 1593. Very Fine.)"
This type has the obverse motto, "DEVS FORTITUDO ET SPES NOSTRA" and was struck 1593, 1596-1601. An earlier type, with the legend "VIGILATE DEO CONFIDENTES", is listed for 1592 and 1595 (Dav-8864).
