This specimen was lot 73304 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. West Friesland. Daalder, 1595. Hoorn Mint. PCGS VF-35 Gold Shield. Some moderate wear, but nevertheless a wholesome and pleasingly toned example of this early crown." This "prince's daalder" was struck 1586-96 along with a rare double rijksdaalder. It varied from other contemporary rijksdaalders in having the unnamed prince (William the Silent) wear a cap. Later rijksdaalders of the seventeenth century show the prince holding the arms of the province (Dav-4842).
