Jean Elsen sale 140, lot 808

This specimen was lot 808 in Jean Elsen sale 140 (Brussels, March 2019), where it sold for €340 (about US$453 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, UTRECHT, Provincie, AV bezemstuiver, 1787. Gouden afslag (1/2 dukaat). Vz/ Pijlenbundel binnen een krans, tussen 1-S. Kz/ TRA/IEC/TUM/ 1780. Daarboven stadswapen. bijna Prachtig. (Netherlands, province of Utrecht, gold arrow stuiver of 1787. Obverse: bundle of arrows tied with a ribbon divides "1-S"; reverse: provincial name and date. about Extremely Fine.)"

The billon stuiver was struck irregularly 1738-39, 1760-65 but the gold stuiver is known for 1738-89. It likely circulated as a half ducat.

Specification: KM 90: 0.81 g, 0.583 fine silver; KM 90a: 1.75 g, gold; this specimen 1,75 g.
