This specimen was lot 34051 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands: Utrecht. Provincial 6 Stuivers 1585 AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, A wonderful and early 6 Stuiver piece and despite the noted cleaning, boasts mostly crisp struck devices and a steely appearance. From the Coenen Collection." This is not the familiar scheepjesschelling of the eighteenth century but a coin closer to the snaphaan struck in Gelderland earlier in the century. The nickname snaphaan ("hensnatcher") comes from the kleptomanic tendencies of the mounted knight depicted on the obverse. The schelling or schilling was later worth six stuivers.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Delm-799, PW-Ut78.
