Uruguay 1917 50 centesimos
This specimen was lot 72893 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "URUGUAY. 50 Centesimos, 1917. Buenos Aires Mint. PCGS MS-65. An exquisite Gem featuring hazy, russet-champagne hues on both the obverse and reverse and possessing exceptionally few contact marks for the grade. The single finest graded at PCGS. From the Cerro Catedral Collection." This type of 1916-17 is listed as fairly common altho choice specimens are expensive. It was struck in Buenos Aires and accompanied a peso (KM 23) with the same design. The next issue (KM 31) was struck in Santiago in 1943 but weighed only 7 g.
