Künker Auction 425, lot 1370

This specimen was lot 1370 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,983 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN AUS ÜBERSEE · VEREINIGTE STAATEN VON AMERIKA, Föderation. 10 Dollars 1853 O, New Orleans. Liberty. 15,05 g Feingold. GOLD. R Sehr schön. Aus der Familiensammlung Mohr. (United States, ten dollars of 1853, New Orleans mint, Liberty head type. Rare, Very fine.)"

This specimen is one of a type struck without motto at the Philadelphia 1839-66. Issues are also recorded from New Orleans (1841-60) and San Francisco (1854-66). In 1866, the motto "In God We Trust" was added to the reverse. The 1853-O eagle is scarce overall and very rare in nice condition.
