Gold dollars were issued 1849-89, with type I (shown here) minted 1849-54. Estimated MS population 15,000-20,000, est. circ population 70,000-110,000 (citation needed--ed.). The most common Gold Dollar. Easily available but scarce MS65 and above. Usually sharply struck but may show clashmarks or die cracks.

Specification: 1.672 g, 0.900 fine gold, .048 troy oz AGW, 13.0 mm diameter.
