The first specimen was lot 25064 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. 3 Altin, AH 1143. Mahmud (AH 1143-68 (1730-54)). PCGS Genuine--Damage, AU Details Secure Holder. Evidence of repair at 12 o'clock but fully struck with some luster remaining. A RARE type with no recent auction records." The second specimen was lot 25065 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. 3 Altin, AH 1143. Mahmud (AH 1143-68 (1730-54)). PCGS Genuine--Damage, EF Details Secure Holder. An enigmatic type unlike the KM-238 triple altin we are offering in this sale as it lacks the decorative arabesques on both sides. Evidence of repair at 12 o'clock plus the resulting cleaning. Ex: Hans M. F. Schulman."
