This specimen was lot 1362 in Jean Elsen sale 138 (Brussels, September 2018), where it sold for €120 (about US$167 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"OTTOMAN EMPIRE, Mahmud I (AD 1730-1754/AH 1143-1168) AV zeri mahbub, AH 1143, Is[t]ambul. Small arabesque between two arrows at right of toughra. Very Fine."
This type is listed in the SCWC for regnal years 8, 12, 15; as the date seems to be illegible, we have arbitrarily assigned it to year 8. The auction cataloguer did not see fit to mention the attempted piercing at the top of the obverse.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.6-2.65 g, gold, the first specimen 2,61 g.
Catalog reference: Fr-43, KM 222, Sultan mark 3. Pere 555; Sultan 1956.
