Turkey AH1168 5 altin
This specimen was lot 21410 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. 5 Altin, AH 1168. Osman III (AH 1168-71 (1754-57)). PCGS Genuine--Damage, EF Details Secure Holder. A VERY RARE large gold issue from this reign. Slightly wavy with a stain at the top that reveals the repair. Included is a Baldwin & Sons envelope attributing this specimen to the king Farouk sale (Cairo, 1954)." The coinage of Osman III is very scanty and this five altin was accompanied by gold three altin (KM 278, KM 279), 1½ altin (KM 275) and a zeri mahbub (KM 270), all rare.
