Steve Album sale 51, lot 282

This specimen was lot 282 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Osman III, 1754-1757, AV 5 sultani (5 altin), Islambul, AH1168, bold strike, slightly uneven surfaces, pierced for suspension (as is common), NGC graded XF details, R. Normal weight for this type is about 17.3 g." The coinage of Osman III is very scanty and this five altin was accompanied by gold three altin (KM 278, KM 279), 1½ altin (KM 275) and a zeri mahbub (KM 270), all rare.
