Transylvania 1627-NB thaler Dav-4721
This specimen was lot 2096 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 1,400 CHF (about US$1,843 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SIEGENBURGEN, Fürstentum, Gabriel Bethlen, 1613-1629. Taler 1627 NB, Nagybànya. Zwitterprägung mit Vorderseite Resch 393 und Rückseite Resch 401. Selten. Sehr schön. Kleiner Randfehler. (principality of Transylvania, Gabriel Bethlen, 1613-1629, thaler of 1627, Nagybànya mint, mule of the obverse of Resch 393 and the reverse of Resch 401. Rare, Very fine, Minor edge flaw.)"
Gabriel Bethlen, the prince, was a Calvinist who allied himself with the ottomans against the Catholic Hapsburgs. Altho this thaler is very similar to Dav-4720, the most obvious difference is the size of the crown on the reverse.
