Sincona sale 35, lot 5373

This specimen was lot 5373 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Tessin/Ticino, 3 Soldi 1841. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (canton of Ticino, three soldi of 1841. Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

Ticino was admitted as a canton in 1803, being a subject area heretofore. Coinage commenced in 1813. This type was struck 1813, 1835, 1838 and 1841; it is fairly common. In Ticino, 12 denari = one soldo; 20 soldi = one franco.

Recorded mintage: 243,000.

Specification: billon; this specimen is 1.73 g.
