Ticino 1835 1/2 franco
This specimen was lot 31537 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ticino. Canton 1/2 Franco 1835 MS65 PCGS. A seldom-seen cantonal issue in conditionally rare grade, featuring radiant surfaces that are fully struck with just a touch of tone near the upper portions of the reverse wreath. Not surprisingly, the single finest example of this one-year type graded at either PCGS or NGC. From the Redwood Collection, Part II." In Ticino, an Italian-speaking canton, 12 denari = one soldo; 20 soldi = one franco. This mezzo franco is accompanied by a three denari, six denari and a quarter franco.
