Thailand RS125 salung

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73601

This specimen was lot 73601 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $110. The catalog description^[1] noted, "THAILAND. Salung (1/4 Baht), RS 125 (1906). PCGS MS-61 Gold Shield. A rather lustrous and vibrant Mint State example, offering a particularly charming golden-orange tone throughout the obverse." This type was struck RS 120-127. The date is shown as "๑๒๕" below the arms on the reverse. Rama V is the potentate starring (some say mocked) in the musical "The King and I."
