Heritage sale 3016, lot 25191

This specimen was lot 25191 in Heritage sale 3016 (Orlando, FL, January 2012), where it sold for $2,070. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 1500 Shilingi 1974, PF64 Ultra Cameo NGC, very scarce with a Proof mintage of 866." This NCLT was accompanied by a silver 25 shilingi (KM 7). It is safe to say that none of the gold coins issued for Tanzania after independence circulated there. In 1982, US$1 = 9.4 shillings.

Recorded mintage: 2,779 plus 866 proofs.

Specification: 33.437 g, 0.900 fine gold, .9675 troy oz AGW.
